Marfa's Top Three

PRADA MARFA

By now, everyone's heard of Marfa, the supposed hometown of the iconic installation of artists, Elmgreen and Dragset. Except, what you probably don't know is Prada Marfa is not in Marfa. It's about half an hour away - a West Texas minute - in Valentine, Texas. But, it's a must see if you go all the way out to Marfa. FYI, the installation has been repaired several times after vandalism, though it was initially intended to decay into its landscape.

MONAHANS SANDHILLS STATE PARK

Also not in Marfa, but like I said, if you're going to be all the way out there, you might as well explore Monahans, a Texas version of New Mexico's White Sands and/or Africa's Sahara Desert. The sand dunes go on for as far as you can see, and make for great photos.

THE GET GO

So you've made it to Marfa, an oasis of culture in the literal and figurative desert that is West Texas. Make sure to stop at The Get Go, because Marfa has both limited options and weird hours. Otherwise, you might find yourself without Topo Chico and/or a bottle of wine.
