A Day in the Life Of... jessica mcclendon
Welcome to our new blog post series, A Day in the Life Of... where we - you guessed it - get a snapshot of a day in the life of women who inspire us. we wanted to focus on the day to day, because that's what entrepreneurship/boss-babeness/following-your-bliss is actually about: the day to day hustle.
First up, @Todayinthestudio, who painted one of the latest pieces in HOTElette!
What’s your full name? Jessica Lennett McClendon.
where were you born? Dallas, TX at parkland hospital on a Sunday afternoon. I don't have the room number on hand.
What's your sign? Leo.
Social security number....?
What's your favorite color? I don't have one. I have preferred colors for different situations (ei. color that looks best on me. Preferred wall colors. Hair dye, undies etc. But one color doesn't trump all for everything).
What time do you normally wake up during the week? 8!
Do you eat breakfast? Yes! yogurt, chia seeds and fruit or a homemade chia seed pudding with slivered almonds and coconut flakes.
Walk us through your day... Wake up, pout for a while because I hate mornings and feel ugly, make breakfast, drive my lover to work. have a cup of coffee, start working in the studio by 10 am. work all day painting until 5:30. Make dinner. Take a walk, Take a shower. Hang out with my partner, work out. Climb in bed and talk and giggle until the lights go off around 11:30.
Do you workout? I work out every evening before bed. I have a whole yoga, strengthening, meditation routine.
Do you have pets? No. I'm not grown enough for pets, but if I could have a pet, it would be a sphinx cat.
what's for lunch? Cashews, cranberries and crispy okra from trader joes OR a caprisi salad. It all depends how engrossed I am in my painting and if I feel like taking the time to prepare something.
what's for dinner? Something different every night. I love to cook. It is so cathartic, much like making art.
it you could have anything for dinner tonight what would it be? Probably tex mex. Feeling cheesy and don't feel like making a mess in the kitchen ;)
do you have a work uniform? I have studio clothes that I usually change into because I am an extremely messy artist. But I take them off before I leave the studio. I like being in normal clothes and looking cute when I am out and about. If I go out in my paint pants, people are always trying to buy them off of me.
boss lady advice for our readers? Being a lady boss is not easy. It takes determination, diligence, grace and resilience. If you want to branch out and do your own thing, don't let anything stop you and most importantly, don't let YOU stop you. Be prepared to cry sometimes, to panic sometimes and to wonder if you are doing the right thing. That is all par for the course. Be brave. Don't give up. Somedays you will lose. But somedays we win and win big.
