A Day in the Life of... Reagan Corbett
The design process for hotelette always begins around a piece (or pieces) of art, so it was a dream to host up-and-coming artist Reagan Corbett of Reagart at HOTELette Austin, while she was in town for her TEDx talk, Beyond the Canvas. Not only were we excited to connect IRL with our girl crush/artist crush, but to have her family take advantage of HOTELette exactly the way we have always envisioned: a home base that encourages friends and family to relax, lounge around and feel at home.
While she was in town, we caught up with her to talk art, morning routines, and the daily grind of running an art empire.
WHAT’S YOUR FULL NAME? REAGAN ALEXANDRA CORBETT
WHERE WERE YOU BORN? ROOM 623 AT METHODIST HOSPITAL IN HOUSTON, TEXAS.
THANKS FOR BEING SO SPECIFIC! TELL US, WHAT DID YOU STUDY IN COLLEGE? I STUDIED STUDIO ART AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN AND ART HISTORY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PARIS SORBONNE.
DO YOU HAVE A SIDE HUSTLE TO YOUR MAIN HUSTLE OF BEING AN ARTIST? YES! I’M DOING MARKETING FOR BUMBLE IN HOUSTON!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE FOOD? JAPANESE AND ITALIAN… BUT NOT TOGETHER.
WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY WAKE UP ON WEEKDAYS? 5:45 OR 6:45 AM, JUST DEPENDS ON THE DAY.
DO YOU EAT BREAKFAST? YES; I GO THROUGH DIFFERENT PHASES OF WHAT EXACTLY I’M EATING IN THE MORNINGS, BUT IT IS ALWAYS SOMETHING PROTEIN BASED THAT’S GOING TO KEEP ME FULL THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
GIVE US A BREAKDOWN OF YOUR DAY… WAKE UP, BRUSH TEETH, ATTEMPT TO BRUSH MANE (MY WILD AF HAIR THAT I USUALLY END UP WEARING IN A PONYTAIL OR BUN), MAKE COFFEE OR TEA, CHECK EMAILS AND SOCIAL MEDIA. IN THE MORNINGS, I MAKE IT A POINT TO HANDLE ALL THE REAGART LOGISTICS, OR WHAT I CALL “COMPUTER WORK” BEFORE HEADING TO MY STUDIO. ONCE I’M AT THE STUDIO (ABOUT 10 AM), MY HEADPHONES GO IN AND I START PAINING. I USED TO TURN MY PHONE ON AIRPLANE MODE WHILE I PAINTED SO THERE WEREN’T ANY DISTRACTIONS, BUT I CAN’T DO THAT ANYMORE - I’M RUNNING A BUSINESS AND HAVE TO BE REACHABLE! THROUGHOUT THE DAY, I PAINT, TAKE PICTURES AND CALLS (GOD BLESS BLUETOOTH HEADPHONES) BUT I’M REALLY BAD ABOUT TEXTING. I USUALLY FINISH PAINTING BETWEEN 6 AND 7PM, AND REVISIT MY EMAILS BEFORE CALLING IT A NIGHT. AFTER I GET HOME, I’LL EXERCISE, SHOWER, EAT DINNER AND WATCH SOMETHING BEFORE BED. EVERYDAY IS A “LONG DAY” BUT SOMEHOW I’M MANAGING TO MAKE IT WORK.
HOLD UP, WHAT ABOUT LUNCH? I USUALLY PASS ON LUNCH UNLESS I’M DYING.
WHAT’S FOR DINNER, THEN? IF I’M COOKING, SOMETHING SIMPLE. AFTER CREATING ALL DAY, THE LAST THING I’M IN THE MOOD FOR IS COOKING AN ARTISANAL DISH. I ALSO CALL IN TO-GO ORDERS AT SOME OF MY H-TOWN FAVORITES.
ANY PETS? NO, UGH… I LOVE ANIMALS AND WANT A DOG MORE THAN ANYTHING, BUT NOT RIGHT NOW. I HAVE NO EXTRA TIME TO SPARE!
YOU’LL HAVE TO GET A STUDIO DOG ONE DAY! IN THE MEANTIME, WHAT’S YOUR BEST ADVICE FOR ASPIRING ARTISTS? GO FOR IT. DETERMINE YOUR GOALS AND DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO ACHIEVE THEM. THE ART WORLD IS ALL ABOUT PASSION AND SELF-HELP. SO BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
